What will you do different?

At dinner on our last day, I asked a fellow pilgrim, what will you do different? How will people know you made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land?

I think I was asking myself – what will I do different and how can I best tell other people about the Holy Land and our experiences?

The photos we share make a difference but as someone asked, “can you explain the photos and what story are they telling?”

Same photo with a story:
At the Church of the Primacy of Peter on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, Jesus said “On this Rock, I will build my church.” (Matthew 16:18) There is a huge rock in the middle of the church, we were there, we touched the rock.

At our first Mass in the Holy Land, Fr Kaz reminded us that God put us here for a specific reason, we are here because of God’s plan. As God’s plan for our lives unfold, we need to be aware and trust in Jesus.

When I was selected to be a reader at the Candlelight procession at the Basilica of the Annunciation on Saturday, 25 May, it was part of God’s plan for my life. I knew it, I was supposed to be here and it was a great honor to be part of the procession. I was really here.

When my wife was handed a candle from the Tomb of Jesus, it was God’s plan for her to be standing at the right place at the right time, she received a message at the same time. She was supposed to be there at that time.

Our guide told us there was different things he would tell us. Some would be tradition, some would be facts, some would be truths, and some would be just stories.

The one truth he told us was the steps that Jesus walked on during his trial was the actual real steps that Jesus really walked on. We were there, looking at the actual steps where Jesus walked.

The one truth he told us was these steps are the steps that Jesus walked on during his trial. We actually walked where Jesus walked.

What will I do different?

I will reflect more about my life and the fact that God is in charge, I will trust Jesus more everyday. One of my daily meditations will center around the statements:

“Lord, Here I am – I trust that you have an incredible plan for me today. Lead me, challenge me, encourage me, and open my eyes to all your possibilities. Show me what it is you want me to do – and I will do it. I am 100% percent available to you today.

As we reflect on our experiences, we need to remove the distractions from our daily lives and focus on the story that is really there. What is important for today in my life?
